Setup Setup

BullGuard does well in that it optimizes your system in order to make it perform better. Setup takes a little longer than expected and that first scan is a little lengthy as well, taking well over an hour for a complete scan.

Before you install make sure you have 850 MB of hard drive as well as at least 1 GB RAM of memory as well as a good internet connection. Installation should not affect the speed of your computer and a feature we liked is that BullGuard will use the installation process for a quick scan, adding some protection before you even get started.

In order to activate the product, you will first have to create a BullGuard account which includes your email and a password.

When scanning, the main screen will show a status bar which you can click on and get notified of the details and find out how much longer you have. It has been noted by some customers that the progress bar sits at 99% just half an hour into the scan when in reality it takes more than double that time to complete.

Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection

In terms of protection BullGuard has strong malware blocking as well as safe browsing features to offer its customers. Malware is something BullGuard takes very seriously and has an impressive detection rate of 99%. False positives are also very low which is a bonus.

In addition to scanning, you have various levels of protection, one of which includes the internet protection feature. This is something you can choose to activate, but if you do it will scan all incoming traffic as well as incoming emails.

There are also options when it comes to leaving things out or skipping something within your scan so that it is completed faster, but we heavily advise against this. The anti-phishing tool could use a little bit of work, as you need to turn it on every time you hit your favorite website.

There is also a spam filter which works with Windows Live Mail, Microsoft Outlook as well as Mozilla Thunderbird. It will whitelist addresses and emails from people you trust as well as manually block spam contacts and even add whole domains. Sometimes spam emails are changed ever so slightly and used again because the previous one is blocked, so the domain blocking is a huge plus.

features Features

BullGuard offers a Vulnerability Scan which looks for security settings that will leave your device vulnerable. You can scan for vulnerabilities and afterwards get a complete list of security problems that have been discovered. In addition to this it will let you know if you have unsigned device drivers, disabled automatic updates or flagged insecure wifi connections.

Game Booster is one of our favorite features that BullGuard has on offer. In addition to suspending notifications and scheduled scans, it will also protect you from framerate drops caused by other programs when you’re gaming.

Parental control is also something that needs to be considered if you have children as it can limit their access to adult websites or websites with violent themes. BullGuard allows you to add various search filters, blocking keywords and even some applications from being installed on your device. You can even monitor what the kids get up to with the activity monitoring feature.

The firewall that is found within this antivirus software is incredibly powerful and will offer premium protection against anyone who is attempting to crack your network. You also have a Backup feature that allows you to automate the process of backing up files, photos, music and other documents.

There are some features missing that we would like to see BullGuard add to their product including things like a password manager, bootable rescue CD and a file shredder.

Ease of Use Ease of Use

BullGuard has a titled interface with its Premium Protection, so opening up you will find titles such as:

  • Antivirus
  • Firewall
  • Vulnerabilities
  • Backup
  • Game Booster
  • PC Tune-Up
  • Parental Control
  • Home Network Scanner

Although you might expect these titles to be clickable, you will instead be able to access them using the BullGuard drop-down menu.

The app itself consists of a sleek and modern design, with hints of vintage vibes here and there. If you are a beginner and not too sure about how to use an antivirus program, BullGuard does its best to keep things simple.

In saying that, you will have to search for things such as the manual scan, which might be a little out of the way.

Pricing Pricing

In terms of packages, you have a couple of options on your hands. Firstly, BullGuard do offer a free trial for their Antivirus program of fifteen days, whilst their other two packages BullGuard Internet Security and BullGuard Premium Protection come with a 30-day free trial.

BullDog antivirus includes features like:

Support

BullGuard offers customer support around the clock, so you can speak to a technician through either email or live chat. There is also a webpage dedicated to helping you out.

The webpage is clearly marked with titles including:

  • Product Guides
  • Product Releases
  • Forum
  • Blog
  • Premium Service
  • Contact

If you choose to email the support team, they promise to get back to you within 24 hours. The Forum is also a great place for any questions you might have for the BullGuard community. Someone is always willing to answer your queries.

The Premium Service includes more packages you can buy such as Virus Removal which means that the antivirus experts at BullGuard will access your device remotely, run a scan, remove and malware and optimize your system performance to make sure everything is running as smoothly as possible. This extra feature will also provide you with a full guide to prevent future infections and you will be given a summary of the intervention.

All in all 24/7 customer support is vital when you’re dealing with sensitive things such as viruses and malware, where every second counts. There have been reports of the tech staff being lackluster in their knowledge of their product, but that all depends on who you ask.

Bottom Line Bottom Line

Using computers, laptops, tablets and smartphone devices is the daily norm, whether in your home or at the office. Unfortunately, the threat of malware, ransomware and spyware is all too real, and with people relying on technology for virtually everything, there is bound to be some sort of sensitive information that we emit online.

Completing tasks like paying your bills via internet banking or doing some online shopping means you are using personal and sensitive data to do so. If you do not protect your devices this means that third parties are able to inject malware and take off with your most private information, leaving you high and dry.

To prevent this it is best to invest in antivirus software such as BullGuard. Offering you security when it comes to malware and other threats, BullGuard is a great choice for your antivirus needs.
