You can also easily find a customer’s contact info and set up email marketing notifications so loyal customers never miss a sale.
Several features make checkout quick and easy for the staff and customer alike. Staff can quickly offer discounts on a full order or one product. Notes can be attached to orders to keep track of custom requests and other details. Easily record a shipping address so items can be shipped to the customer at a later date. Receipts can be customized to include your store’s website URL, hours, or policies and promotions.
Shopify allows you to track payments on a credit card reader you already own. The system allows partial payments on orders, splits tenders, and accepts major credit cards, gift cards, and custom payment types.
Ease of Use
The interface of each main screen on Shopify is simple and intuitive. The analytics section includes a comprehensive, actionable dashboard that tracks your sales, orders, and traffic to help you make the right choices for your business, fast. Shopify’s free credit card reader can be plugged into your tablet or smart phone. Credit card rates are as low as 2.4% with no additional charge (on the advanced package only). Hardware comes with free shipping, and returns are accepted up to 30 days.
The biggest limitation of the Shopify POS system is that some features are only available with purchase of the full retail package. This includes some helpful hardware like the barcode scanner/printer and custom receipt printer.
The ability to refund purchases to the original payment method or make an exchange for store credit is not available in the basic POS package, nor is the ability to create custom staff PINs. The “Cash Float” feature mentioned above is also only available with the full retail package.
Basic Shopify includes 2 staff accounts and an in-person credit card rate of 2.7% + 0¢. Various plans with more capabilities and lower rates are available on the site.
