Getting started with Pinnacle Studio is straightforward and swift. The initial download can take a little time, as it is a large file with over 1.5 gigabytes of space required. Once installed, that expands to over 4.0 gigabytes. However, after the installation is complete, setting your initial configuration is simple with a helpful wizard designed to get you started quickly. Additionally, keep in mind that Pinnacle Studio is optimized for newer hardware, so you should make sure your computer can run it without complications.
We found that Pinnacle Studio’s interface can be somewhat overwhelming at first. When you first open the program, you are hit with a wide variety of menus and options, which can be slightly difficult to navigate initially, but become much simpler as you familiarize yourself with the interface. Pinnacle Studio does organize your different projects in a useful system of “bins”, keeping all the multimedia—photos, clips, sounds—from a project in a single location to make it easier for you to identify later. Once you are editing, the interface is a standard 3-panel view that includes a preview pane, a section with all your multimedia, and a timeline view for your full project.
Basic Editing Features
One of the best characteristics of Pinnacle Studio’s video editing tools is that it uses drag and drop functionality to allow you to move around different scenes, sounds, and images easily. When you need to connect scenes together, you can use dynamic transitions which have variable length. You also have motion tracking capabilities, which let you focus on specific elements within your video. If you are making a more creative project, Pinnacle even provides support for stop-motion animation and frame-by-frame capture. Finally, Pinnacle Studio also includes visual effects by NewBlue, offering more than 900 premade effects and many more plugin types.
Pinnacle is one of the best video editors when it comes to the scope of available audio tools. You can edit audio directly from your timeline, without having to open an extra module or menu, and do quick alterations and even voiceover recording. If you are looking for more advanced tools, Pinnacle supplies audio ducking to minimize background noise, and even a “Speech DeEsser” which removes sharp sounds from your dialogue.
Ease of Use
We discovered that Pinnacle Studio is very straightforward to utilize thanks to its intuitive interface and drag-and-drop functionality. While getting started can be a little overwhelming, the whole system becomes much simpler after a relatively low learning curve compared to peers. Thanks to clever design that allows you to handle most things directly from the main timeline view, you can avoid having to scour through menus and dropdown boxes to find the tools you need to edit your video project.
One area we were particularly impressed by was Pinnacle Studio’s performance. While we found that the software ran smoothly on most of the devices we tested, we definitely noticed that it works best on computers that use newer processors and are optimized for intensive graphics. Pinnacle does allow for 4K and virtual reality video, but those features are dependent on your hardware capabilities. We did find that Pinnacle renders files quicker than many competitors under similar conditions, and does not drag during complicated operations.
Sharing and Output
You have a great variety of choices when it comes to supported output formats. If you sign up for Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, you can output files in 4K Ultra HD, though the more affordable versions of Pinnacle Studio also offer full HD. You can also create files in popular formats such as MPEG, WMV, and AVI. For sharing, easily upload your completed projects to social media such as Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, and Box.
ou have three different plans to choose from when signing up with Pinnacle Studio. Each offers an excellent base product, but the Plus and Ultimate options add great value-added benefits for their price. You can choose one of the following plans:
- The Standard plan costs $49.95
- The Plus plan includes live screen capture, motion tracking, and advanced audio tools for $79.95
The Ultimate plan also adds 360-degree video editing and full 4K output for $99.95
With a great feature set and an easy-to-use interface, Pinnacle Studio offers an exceptional video editing solution with outstanding performance. Despite a slightly overwhelming initial experience, the suite is a breeze to use and is intuitive, letting you create the exact video project you want with great sound and outstanding quality.
